Expression of interest: Postdoctoral researcher in computational nanophotonics and material science
CINBIO is looking for a Postdoctoral researcher in computational nanophotonics and material science to contribute to research modelling hybrid nanostructured photocatalysts.
We seek candidates with experience in computational modelling of nanostructured systems through ab initio or semiclassical methods, ideally with experience modelling some aspect of light-matter interaction. The context of this project is the development of new theoretical methods to optimize photocatalytic strategies using nanostructures made with different materials, with the ultimate goal of efficiently using solar energy to drive chemical reactions. The incoming researcher will work in a project with great scientific and technological potential, bridging research in physics and chemistry, so that they will interact and collaborate with a diverse range of researchers, both within CINBIO and internationally.
Funding is provided by the Spanish Ministry for Science and Innovation (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) under the “Research Challenges” call (Projectos I+D+I “Retos de Investigación”), project “LIGHTtoGAS: Multiscale Models for Plasmon Photocatalysis Engineering.” The selected candidate will join the TeamNanoTech research group (https://cinbio.es/en/research/groups/teamnanotech-tnt), in Biomedical Research Centre (CINBIO) (http://cinbio.es), and will work under the supervision of Lucas Vázquez Besteiro.
A good level of English (written and spoken). Capability of acquiring a visa for working in the EU. Having a finished PhD degree by the starting date of the contract.
Desired background for candidates:
Demonstrable research experience in modelling physical properties of nanostructures through analytic or numerical methods. Experience with first-principles techniques, such as DFT and ideally also using post-DFT formalisms modelling excited states, will valued.
Full-time contract (37.5 hours per week) with a gross monthly salary of 2500 €. The initial duration of the contract is of 1 year, with the possibility (and expectation) of extending it. Anticipated starting date is Jan 15th, 2024.

Computational modelling of hybrid plasmonic photocatalysts
Modelling the interaction of light with systems composed by metallic and semiconducting nanoparticles, and supported by metalorganic frameworks, to study their joint response as photocatalysts in driving reactions of technological interest. Contributing to the design of multiscale models for describing hybrid plasmonic systems with a complex material configuration.
