Dr. Claudia Pigliacelli - CINBIO Seminar Programme 18 December 2024 Sala de Seminarios de Torre CACTI

Programa Seminar Programme

O mércores 18 de decembro de 2024, a Dr. Claudia Pigliacelli (Department of Chemistry, Materials, and
Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta” of Politecnico di Milano), ofrecerá o seminario “Engineering gold nanomaterials: from nanoclusters to supraparticles" dentro do ciclo CINBIO Seminar Programme.

Será ás 11:00 horas na Sala de Seminarios da Torre CACTI.

ABSTRACT:

Gold nanomaterials have emerged as valuable tools in a variety of high-end applications.
Proper tuning of their size and of their possible self-assembly into larger structuresis essential
to obtain custom morphological and functional features. In this talk, l will present the design
and synthesis of differently sized and functionalized gold nanoparticles (NPs) and atomically
precise nanoclusters(NC). I will then discuss how, by modulating the interparticle interactions
via supramolecular design, NPs and NCs can be employed as building blocks to devise highly
pure single crystals and supraparticles, and the possible application of these self-assembled
systems.

BIO:

Claudia Pigliacelli is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Materials, and
Chemical Engineering “Giulio NaAa” of Politecnico di Milano. She received her PhD in Pharmacy from
the University of East Anglia (2015). She has been a research assistant and postdoc researcher at
Politecnico di Milano (2013–2016), and worked as postdoc at Aalto University (Finland, 2016-2019)
and at the Centro de InvesUgacións CienWficas Avanzadas (CICA, Universidade da Coruña, Spain, 2020).
Her research interests focus on the design of nanoscale systems based on pepUdes and inorganic
nanoparUcles, which applicaUon is not limited to but mostly fall in the biomedical field.
