Artiom Skripka - CINBIO Seminar Programme 18 October 2022 Sala de seminarios da Torre CACTI

O 18 de outubro de 2022 o investigador Artiom Skripka (Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory & Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) ofrecerá o seminario "Emission control of lanthanide-doped nanoparticles and their multifaceted application" dentro do ciclo "CINBIO Seminar Programme." Será ás 11:00h na Sala de Seminarios da Torre CACTI.

"Lanthanide (Ln3+)-doped nanoparticles (LnNPs) are explored as imaging probes, sensors, and actuators of secondary photochemical processes. Their photophysical properties allow for light emission across a broad spectral range even under a single near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation. Most prominently, by virtue of sequential energy accumulation, Ln3+ ions embedded into an inorganic host matrix convert low-energy NIR excitation into high-energy visible emission, the so-called upconversion. Combined with core/shell engineering, specific emission wavelengths are attained for different applications.

We investigate LnNPs of different compositions and architectures aiming at a rational control of energy exchange pathways between Ln3+ ions and consequently of their emission. Of particular interest are LnNP sensitivity to temperature[1], on-demand control between Stokes-shifted and upconversion emission[2], and highly-nonlinear processes such as photon avalanching[3]. The latter was observed at the nanoscale only recently, yet quickly gained broad interest in the community and prompted a search for new photon avalanching LnNPs."
