O venres 28 de xuño de 2024 o Prof. Dr. Diogo Silva Pellosi (Grupo de Pesquisa em Macromoléculas e Interfaces Departamento de Química - UFPR) ofrecerá o seminario "Development of AgNP-based Nanoarchitecture for Monitoring Pollutant Models' Photodegradation Mechanism through Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy", dentro do ciclo "CINBIO Seminar Programme".

Abstract:

Water resource pollution has become increasingly prevalent as a result of human activity interference. Conventional treatment technologies have proven to be ineffective for the complete elimination and removal of a variety of environmentally concerning pollutants. The photocatalysis process, mediated by the control of the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band of nanoparticles, has gained traction in the treatment of water contaminated by effluents for reuse and disposal, serving as an excellent alternative to complement remediation processes in contaminated environments. This process allows for the transformation of chemical species into substances of lower toxicity and with structural characteristics that promote efficient biodegradation. The utilization of ZnO nanohybrids and silver nanoparticles has demonstrated significant effectiveness in the mineralization of models of organic pollutants. Moreover, these nanoparticles exhibit high light absorption in the UV and visible regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Photodegradation analyses of aqueous solutions of the targeted molecules have revealed that the type of nanoparticle and pH levels influence the efficiency of photodegradation. Intermediate products resulting from the photocatalysis reaction for pollutant models were estimated based on spectra obtained through the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy technique.      

Bio:

Diogo Silva Pellosi currently serves as an associate professor at the Department of Physical Chemistry at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). He is also a visiting professor at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) and an associate researcher at the National Institute of Technology in Organic Electronics (INCT - INEO) as well as the Center of Innovation in Materials at the Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Company (Embrapii). Diogo holds a degree and PhD in chemistry from the State University of Maringá (UEM/PR) and completed a postdoctoral program at the chemistry department of the University of São Paulo (USP). His research interests include:

- Development of metallic nanoparticles (silver, copper, and hybrids with metallic oxides) for use as photocatalysts activated by visible light, probes for SERS spectroscopy, and self-cleaning antibacterial materials.

- Recovery of industrial waste and production of nanomaterials from metallic oxides and nanoparticles.

- Development of intelligent polymeric nanoparticles (targeting and theranostic) for the selective delivery of photopharmaceuticals and photodynamic therapy.
