ABSTRACT:
Water electrolysis is promising strategy for combating CO2 emissions. To this end, efficient catalysts are required, with high-performance and stability, and with maximized utilisation of cheap and environmentally friendly elements. This presentation will focus on synthesis routes toward magnetic water oxidation catalysts. Alkaline oxidative hydrolysis and electrospinning syntheses to produce a variety of ferrites exhibiting interesting structural and microstructural properties as well as high magnetoelectrochemical performances will be discussed. The application of the synthesized magnetic catalysts in conventional and magnetically-enhanced single-cell anion exchange water electrolysis (AEMEL) will be discussed. The presentation will conclude with an outlook on our future synthesis efforts towards advanced magnetic catalysts.
SHORT BIO:
Dr. Yury V. Kolen’ko is a Group Leader at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), located in Braga, Portugal. He leads dynamic and interdisciplinary the Kolen’ko Research Group, focusing on the synthesis and investigation of unconventional nanomaterials. Particular emphasis is placed on structure–property relationships in the nanoparticles and nanostructures. Additional efforts focus on developing new heterogeneous catalysts for various selective hydrogenation and coupling reactions.
