ABSTRACT:

Chiral inorganic nanomaterials offer distinctive advantages for advanced sensing and catalytic applications, yet their controlled synthesis and long-term stability present significant challenges. In this presentation, I will discuss our group’s efforts in the precise synthesis and functionalization of well-defined chiral nanomaterials. We begin at the atomic scale, exploring the fabrication of nanostructures with intrinsic chiral crystal symmetries. Using interfacial engineering and seed-mediated growth, we further prepare discrete chiral nanomaterials with finely tunable chiroptical properties. For sensing, we introduce chiral imprinting strategies, combining physical and chemical mechanism, to engineer selective recognition sites on chiral nanostructures. This enables highly sensitive and enantioselective detection through surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and refractive index-based sensing platforms. In the realm of catalysis, we design chiral plasmonic nanozymes, heterostructures, and magnetic chiral nanomaterials. We examine how their chiral-dependent electromagnetic fields and hot-carrier dynamics drive efficient photocatalysis under circularly polarized light. Notably, magnetic chiral systems allow external modulation of both catalytic activity and magneto-chiroptical responses.
