O martes 4 de xuño o Dr. Alexander O. Govorov (Department of Physics and Astronomy, Ohio University, Athens, USA) ofrecerá o seminario "Biosensing with inexpensive plasmonic materials, nanocrystals with complex shapes, hot spots and hot electrons, chiral photochemistry, and more", dentro do ciclo "CINBIO Seminar Programme".
Será ás 11:00h na Sala de seminarios de Torre CACTI.
ABSTRACT:
Plasmonic nanostructures and metamaterials are very efficient at absorbing and scattering light and are used widely for biosensing. The studies presented in this talk concern special designs of hybrid nanostructures with electromagnetic hot spots, where the electromagnetic field becomes strongly enhanced and spatially concentrated. While the commercial biotesting strips commonly utilize gold nanocrystals, we have shown that TiN can be efficient for such applications and even offers certain advantages.

Alexander (Sasha) Govorov is a Distinguished Professor of Theoretical Physics at Ohio University in Athens, United States. He received his PhD in 1991 from the Institute of Semiconductor Physics in Novosibirsk, Russia. In 2001, Dr. Govorov moved to the U.S. and joined Ohio University. His research focuses on the theory of optical and electronic properties of nanostructures and bio-assemblies. His theoretical predictions have motivated experiments in many research labs worldwide. Dr. Govorov is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, recipient of several international awards, including:
